Guy Thesen

After receiving a Diploma in Graphic Design from Michaelis School of Fine Art (UCT) in 1986, Guy Thesen did numerous ventures in design, conservation, business and teaching, before becoming a full time
artist working from his home studio in Knysna.

His interest in Archaeology, especially the symbolism and myths surrounding South African rock art inspired his earlier works.

After a traumatic eye injury his work then turned more introspective and he began to explore the themes of the Psychic world, broadly defined as mind, soul, self, subconscious, spirit, inner self, awareness, ego, subliminal, individuality and intuition.

He works in both sculpture, printmaking and painting. His method can be described as process driven, using stylized abstract forms with vibrant flat colours. He has had many group and solo exhibitions over the years and works through Trent Read at the Knysna Fine Art Gallery.
